Council of Chieftains

In addition to their own internal politics, the chiefs or magistrates of the Gallic tribes also came together in council to debate and resolve wider issues with outsiders present. According to Caesar, such a council took place after the defeat of the Helvetii, when representatives from across Gaul came to congratulate him on his victory and seek aid against Ariovistus of the Suebi. Druids, such as Diviciacus of the Aedui, were often the spokespersons for such delegations.
