Improved Material Transportation
Description
The location, and scale, of building projects was influenced by a number of factors, not least availability of building materials. Quarrying techniques improved, and the transportation of materials became easier, thanks to a vast network of canals. Improved carts and wagons helped to improve overland transport, as did the introduction of safe trade routes. However, land routes remained more expensive and physically demanding than their water equivalents, and waterways became the favoured method of material transportation.
