Temple Tax

  • +5% tax rate
  • +2 public order
Description

For centuries temples were free to improve their estates and accumulate wealth, owing only spiritual support to their governments. However, it was not long before rulers began to identify these religious establishments and their expanding estates as a potential source of income, not just as houses of learning and religion. The Persian government, for example, stationed administrators within the temples of Mesopotamia to ensure that taxation was collected.
